Course Introduction

Cleft palate requires surgical treatment early in life, with the aim of restoring palatal anatomy and function and creating the best possible conditions for normal speech development. Despite successful primary palatal repair, a proportion of patients will require secondary surgery to improve velopharyngeal function and speech.

During this intensive two-day course, experts in the field will share their knowledge, techniques and perspectives on both primary cleft palate repair and secondary speech-improving surgery. The faculty will guide participants through surgical planning, relevant anatomy and step-by-step operative techniques, followed by hands-on dissections in the wet lab.

The practical sessions will be performed on fresh frozen cadavers with two participants per specimen and will cover essential techniques for primary palatal closure as well as secondary procedures for velopharyngeal insufficiency.

FAIR-TRAED

Esser Masterclass introduced a new education principle: FAIR-TRAED (Fair Transparent Education). FAIR-TRAED means that the registration fees are directly invested in the Esser Masterclass educational materials to advance plastic surgery trainings. The organisation and the faculty have a passion for plastic surgery and support FAIR-TRAED which means that they do not receive any financial compensation. This enables Esser Masterclass to keep the registration fees at a minimum. Our mission is making high-quality plastic surgery education accessible for every plastic surgeon around the globe and our motto is training form plastic surgeons to plastic surgeons.
